Back in 1998 when I got started in the industry, I had to go out and literally introduce myself to people one-by-one who I came across to grow my network. For this reason alone, it makes sense to use Facebook to meet new and interesting people and grow your network. But, another reason why Facebook makes networking so convenient is that you can target the people you want to connect with. You can simply join a relevant group or fanpage and connect with fellow members. In other words, by joining groups and fanpages that have to do with “network marketing” or “personal development”, chances are you’ll be connecting with like-minded people that have the same interests as you. It goes without saying that your goal when you connect with someone, is not to pitch your business or shove your business down their throat. You goal is to connect, build rapport and get to know them. Build a friendship before you bring up your business because they’ll be more receptive to your message if they like you. It doesn’t guarantee that they’ll be interested in your business, but I guarantee you that you’ll get much farther making friends than spamming everyone on your friends list. If you haven’t signed up for an account, you should go ahead and do that. It’s free, it’s simple and, quite frankly, it’s fun.

The second social site I recommend is LinkedIn. Now, LinkedIn doesn’t come close to having the amount of users that Facebook does. However, the calibre of people that are on LinkedIn is top-notch. The average annual income of someone on LinkedIn is $100,000 a year. In addition to that, many LinkedIn users are business owners or corporate executives. Now, why is this important? Well, from a network marketing perspective, do you want to network with influential people with big markets, or do you want to network with people that have no credibility and know 2 people? Like Facebook, it’s completely free and simple to create a profile. But unlike Facebook, it’s not a place to upload fun pictures or anything like that. It’s has more of a corporate setting, so don’t try to bring your Facebook etiquette to LinkedIn. With that said, it’s still a great place to connect with people and, like Facebook, you can target who you talk to by joining relevant groups.

In closing, using social networking sites to meet new people is not only fun, but it’s smart too. In just 1 or 2 hours a day, you can meet and connect with 50-100 people a day, all without leaving your home. As long as you make true connections with people and you don’t spam people, growing your network will not be that difficult. And if you plan on building a successful business, that’s a good thing.

The biggest challenge many network marketers have is getting leads. However many network marketers that get leads still find reasons not to call them.

Some of the excuses I’ve heard are:

“I don’t want to call people in the morning, they’re to busy getting ready for the day.”

“I don’t want to call people at lunch, well because they’re having lunch.”

“I can’t call people in the afternoon because no one’s home.”

“I can’t call people in the late afternoon; they will be busy with the kids coming home from school.”

“I certainly don’t want to call at dinnertime.”

“And I can’t call people to late so the only time I can call my leads is between 7 and 8 PM.”

REALLY THEN WHY DO PEOPLE HAVE PHONES!!

What’s with all the excuses?

THERE IS NO BAD TIME TO CALL!!

My personal rule is I will start calling people no sooner then 9:30 AM and no later then 8:30 PM. People are home in the morning, afternoon and at night. Do not assume what schedule people have, if you keep doing that you’ll never get on the phone. I have talked to people at all hours of the day and the evening. If I have calls to do I do them according to my schedule, not someone else’s.

You should have a plan or routine for making you lead calls, here’s mine. When I receive a lead, here’s what I do.

1) I see what time the lead came in. With my program I get the exact time and date of when the lead came in. It looks like this: 11/22/2008 7:24:31 PM.

2) I record the time in a call book I have with the leads information and I make a point of calling them the next day at the time the lead came in, the chances of talking to that lead is better.

I never wait more then 24 hours. If the lead came in to late at night or to early in the morning I call them at an appropriate time. Earlier in the evening or later in the morning.

3) If I don’t get a hold of them on my first attempt I leave a message with my contact info. I don’t mention that I’ll be calling back, I want them to call me. The biggest mistake I feel is not leaving a message. I spoke to a lady in my downline and she would not leave messages ever. And I asked her “What are you ashamed of?”

4) If I did not make first contact I try 2 more times. Each time is opposite of the original call. So if I called this person for the first time in the evening, my next call would be in the morning, then if needed in the afternoon. I always wait 2 or 3 days between attempts.

5) If I don’t get a hold of them after 3 times of trying I FORGET ABOUT THEM!! Actually so I can’t call them I toss out their information. I don’t chase anybody. I have better things to do (and so do you).

Here’s a great tip when you’re making your calls, it’s pretty straightforward but it works:

HAVE FUN!!!

You’re just calling people to see how they’re doing and where they are at. Are they in Network Marketing already, are they just looking, do they need help. It’s not like you’re trying to sell them. Well I hope not, and if you are have fun with that. 98% of the population is sales resistant. Just make a connection and build the relationship and enjoy the fact you’re meeting people from all over with FANTASTIC stories to share.

If you put something off toward your business or your success one day that means that you just missed one more day of success and happiness in your life. The more days you put your tasks behind, the later and later you will get to enjoy your success as your life ticks away. The quicker you do what it takes to get to your goals, the sooner you will see your success!

Patience is also a virtue! Do not let it get you down that it might take awhile for your dreams and success in your home based multi-level marketing business to come true.

As long as you stay on top of what you need to do and never procrastinate you will eventually meet your success! If you get frustrated and do not have patience you will never meet your goals either because you will either give up or have am emotional breakdown because you thought your dreams were going to come true overnight because you are working hard and not procrastinating.

Being impatient is just as bad as procrastinating because it will only lead you down the path to give up hope and eventually slowly forget about your dreams and give up entirely even though you might not even notice it.

Successful people realize that they can get what they want if they do what is necessary to accomplish it as soon as possible but waiting for it to play its course and happen by having patience and capitalizing on every day and opportunity given to them but not procrastinating.

Having patience and taking advantage of everyday in getting your tasks done will get you to your goals and beyond every time in your multi-level marketing business, your career and in your wealthy personal life you have always dreamed about!
